"I Came to Change the Regime": Prophet Mutondo’s Explosive Claims
Sona Headlines | The Ollah 7 Interview | Editorial Comment
In a no-holds-barred interview on On The Spot with DJ Ollah 7, the controversial cleric Prophet Charles Motondo — also known as Bishop CB Motondo — opened up about his past, his ministry, and the accusations that have followed him for years. The Congolese-born preacher, who was deported from England over fraud-related charges, now leads a church in Zimbabwe and boldly claims to be the nation’s “only true prophet.”
Motondo insists that God sent him to help change Zimbabwe’s political landscape during the 2017 transition, even declaring that he operates in a supernatural realm he calls “Paravinto.” But his ministry has not been without controversy. He has been linked to a kidnapping case and previously faced $70,000 extortion charges after allegedly attempting to cleanse a home of evil spirits. In the interview, he addressed these allegations, defended his miracles, and explained his divine mission.
As his bold claims collide with his troubled past, many Zimbabweans are left asking: Is Prophet Charles Motondo a genuine messenger of God — or is there more to the story?
"God Sent Me to Change the Regime"
Mutondo claims his arrival in Zimbabwe was not by chance but by divine assignment. He states that in 2017, God instructed him to meet the then-Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa and tell him he would take over the country. He asserts that this was a "regime change" mission ordained by God, despite the risks involved at the time.
When pressed on the current political climate, Mutondo boldly declared that the current leadership will remain until their "God-given mandate" is fulfilled. He dropped a specific timeline, initially mentioning 2038, stating: "God has given me Zimbabwe from 2017 to 2038 in terms of the presidency." He insists this timeline stands regardless of opposition or elections.
The Nelson Chamisa Factor
Mutondo acknowledges opposition leader Nelson Chamisa as a "man of God" and a lawyer with courage and determination. However, he was emphatic that it is not yet Chamisa's time.
"If you were not meant to be President, even if you give people 1 million ZiG each, you will never become a President. Period."
He advised Chamisa to seek a true prophet to understand God's timing, suggesting that political rallies and popularity do not equate to a divine mandate for power at this specific moment.
Scandals: Kidnapping & Extortion Claims
Mutondo addressed the 2023 allegations of kidnapping a Chinese national for ransom. He vehemently denied the charges, claiming he was framed by business rivals and corrupt elements. He stated that the "victim" later apologized in court, admitting to lying because he owed money. Mutondo claims to have sued the police for wrongful arrest and defamation.
On the issue of allegedly extorting a couple of $70,000 for "spiritual cleansing" of a haunted house, Mutondo argued that the property was given to him voluntarily as a gift for the church in 2019. He questioned why the couple waited years to claim extortion, suggesting it was a smear campaign orchestrated by enemies who are "afraid" of his influence.
The "Paravinto" Realm
When asked if there are other true prophets in Zimbabwe, Mutondo claimed that while there are prophets, he operates in a unique, higher dimension he calls "Paravinto." He described this as a realm of creation where he can "change decisions and rewrite history," distinguishing himself from those who merely predict events.
He admitted that many modern prophets use "juju" and external powers from West Africa to perform miracles. He warned believers to judge prophets by their character—specifically humility—rather than just signs and wonders, noting that even the devil can simulate healing that doesn't last.
The Sona Verdict
Prophet Charles Mutondo remains an enigma. To his followers, he is the "Paravinto" commander who shapes nations; to his critics, a controversial figure entangled in legal battles. His bold assertion that he "created" the current political atmosphere in Zimbabwe and knows the future leadership until 2038 places him squarely in the center of the religion-meets-politics debate.
Whether one believes his "Paravinto" claims or views them as delusions of grandeur, one thing is certain: Mutondo knows how to keep the nation talking.
