Uebert Angel’s Claim of Spiritual Lineage to Ezekiel Guti Sparks Theological Debate

Reported by: Sona Headlines Religion Desk | Sponsored by: Sona Solar Zimbabwe

Prophet Uebert Angel has publicly declared his spiritual lineage to the late ZAOGA FIF founder, Archbishop Ezekiel Guti. In a recent statement, Angel revealed that his own "great grandfather" in the faith, Archbishop Benson Idahosa, was personally instructed by God to give his Bible college fees to a struggling Guti.

Uebert Angel and Ezekiel Guti Debate
The declaration has sparked a massive online conversation about mysticism versus traditional Gospel teachings.

Angel further praised Guti as one of the most influential “God’s generals,” controversially insisting that Guti remains spiritually alive and active in the supernatural realm despite his physical death. This assertion has triggered a fierce theological debate online.

Inside the Online Controversy

Prophet Uebert Angel’s narrative centers on a historical and spiritual connection between global pentecostal pioneers.

A Lineage of "Generals"

By tracing his roots through Archbishop Benson Idahosa, Angel attempts to solidify his place within an elite spiritual hierarchy. He stated that Idahosa was divinely instructed to fund Ezekiel Guti’s early Bible college fees, binding their ministries together.

Active Beyond the Grave?

The most contentious part of Angel's address was his insistence that Archbishop Guti remains spiritually active in the supernatural realm, actively participating in events despite his physical passing. While some followers embraced the sentiment, it immediately drew sharp criticism from orthodox believers.

The remarks immediately drew theological scrutiny from Zimbabwean Christians, many of whom felt the comments strayed too far into mysticism.

Distorting the Gospel

Social media commentator Tom Nyasha Chimambo provided a poignant critique: “This is exactly how the Gospel gets distorted. Respect to Ezekiel Guti and Benson Idahosa for their historical impact—but Christianity is not about ‘spiritual lineages’ or claiming access to dead prophets.”

He added, “The Bible doesn’t teach that the dead are still ‘active’ and communicating with the living... This kind of teaching starts to look less like the Gospel of Christ and more like personality worship mixed with mysticism.”

Spiritual Supremacy

Another user, Misheck Hamandishe, questioned the focus of such sermons: “The meaning of gospel doesn't stray from telling people about our Lord Jesus Christ and the good news of salvation. Not these stories which are meant to create some sort of spiritual supremacy.”

Other users took to biblical scripture to counter Angel's claims regarding the supernatural activity of the deceased.

Quoting the Scriptures

Gomba Tawira Russel plainly stated, “And the scripture says exclusively that the dead know nothing.”

Meanwhile, Tapiwa Ramel quoted Colossians 2:8 & 18-19, warning against “empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ.”

The Audience Divide: "Spot on Prophet" - ZAOGA Supporters "Con Artist" - Heavy Skeptics

Despite the heavy criticism, Angel's remarks resonated with some. Followers of both ministries applauded the historical connection, with users like Darlington commenting, "That is why I love ZAOGA," and others simply praising the acknowledgment of Guti's undeniable impact.
