Grace Over Greed: Prophet Makandiwa and Apostle Eunor Guti Graciously Reject Sir Wicknell’s Luxury Car Gifts

In a nation frequently captivated by flamboyant displays of wealth and controversial "car-gifting" sprees, a powerful statement on pastoral integrity has emerged. Outspoken businessman Sir Wicknell Chivayo has publicly revealed that top Zimbabwean clergy—specifically Emmanuel Makandiwa, his wife Prophetess Ruth Makandiwa, and ZAOGA FIF matriarch Apostle Eunor Guti—politely, yet firmly, rejected his offers of luxury vehicles.

THE UNBOUGHT PULPIT: Recent revelations by Sir Wicknell Chivayo have highlighted a masterclass in church ethics, demonstrating that genuine spiritual leadership cannot be swayed by material gifts.

The revelation came to light during a heated Facebook exchange where Chivayo was responding to political figure Temba Mliswa. In defending his philanthropic track record, Chivayo inadvertently provided the Christian community with a profound masterclass in ethical leadership. Rather than accepting the multi-thousand-dollar gifts, the Makandiwas offered something far more valuable: an invitation to their home to pray for the businessman, so that his wealth could be redirected to bless those who truly need it.

The Facebook Confession

The revelation was made publicly as Chivayo sought to explain the dynamics of his highly publicized donation sprees across the country.

Writing on his official Facebook page, Sir Wicknell outlined that not everyone he approached was willing to accept his luxury gifts.

"No Hard Feelings" Chivayo wrote: "In retrospect a few have declined donations I offered them and there were never any hard feelings whatsoever. Known examples are Mrs Guti from ZAOGA, President of ZIFA Magwizi and even Prophet Makandiwa and his wife..."

A Masterclass in Spiritual Leadership

How a minister responds to the temptation of immense, unearned wealth defines the true character of their ministry. The response from the UFIC founders was textbook pastoral care.

Redirecting the Blessing Instead of driving away in a new luxury vehicle, Prophet Emmanuel and Ruth Makandiwa turned the moment into a spiritual intervention. According to Chivayo, the couple "gratuitously offered to invite me to his house to PRAY for me to have more blessings in order to BLESS others."
Protecting the Altar By redirecting Chivayo's philanthropy toward "others" who are in need, the Makandiwas effectively protected the sanctity of their altar. They demonstrated that the church should be a conduit for empowering the marginalized, rather than a destination for controversial wealth consolidation.

The Guardians of the Faith

The Makandiwas were not alone in this ethical stance. The inclusion of ZAOGA's matriarch in Chivayo's list speaks volumes about the old guard of Zimbabwean Pentecostalism.

Apostle Eunor Guti, widely respected as a mother figure of the Zimbabwean faith community, also declined the billionaire's offer.

The ZAOGA Legacy As the widow of the late Archbishop Ezekiel Guti, Apostle Eunor carries the immense weight of the ZAOGA FIF legacy—a ministry built on strict principles of "working with your own hands" (talents) and deep financial discipline. Her rejection of the gift reinforces the church's long-standing doctrine of self-reliance over opportunistic patronage.

The principled stance extended beyond religious circles.

ZIFA President Magwizi Chivayo also noted that ZIFA President Magwizi declined the offer. This highlights that ethical boundaries regarding massive, unsolicited gifts are a matter of personal and institutional integrity, relevant in both secular and spiritual leadership.

The Unbought Pulpit

In an era where the lines between ministry and materialism are frequently blurred, the actions of Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa, Prophetess Ruth Makandiwa, and Apostle Eunor Guti serve as a brilliant beacon of ethical fortitude. By declining luxury vehicles from a highly polarizing figure, they have sent an unequivocal message: True spiritual authority cannot be bought, sponsored, or compromised.

Their decision to offer prayer instead of accepting patronage is a powerful reminder of what the pastoral mandate truly entails—guiding souls, protecting the dignity of the church, and pointing wealth toward those who actually need it.
