The Making of a Global Gospel Icon
Osinachi Kalu Okoro Egbu, known professionally as Sinach, is a Nigerian-born award-winning gospel musician, songwriter, vocalist, and international worship leader whose songs have become anthems in homes and churches around the world.
Born on March 30, 1973, in Ebonyi State, Nigeria, Sinach is the second daughter of seven children. She completed her early education in her village before heading to the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where she studied and graduated with a degree in Physics.
She started singing as a hobby in 1989 and began writing songs at the age of 19. At the time, she was a dedicated church choir member who had no idea she would go global. Despite initial disapproval from her father, who saw no future in her vision to succeed as a singer, Sinach drew tenacity and a deep love for God from her parents.
Before becoming an active music minister, Sinach worked as an administrative staff member at the Believers Loveworld Church (Christ Embassy). She describes Pastor Chris Oyakhilome as her mentor, life coach, and spiritual father.
Pastor Chris played a pivotal role in her career by asking her to lead worship before his teachings, speaking words of affirmation and confidence that made her believe in herself. She served as a senior worship leader at Loveworld until 2021, witnessing firsthand the overwhelming anointing and miracles at crusades worldwide.
Sinach has performed and headlined concerts in over 50 countries, including Kenya, South Africa, the USA, Canada, the UK, and Jamaica. In September 2019, she became the first gospel artist from Africa to tour India, headlining concerts with thousands in attendance. She also received a Bethlehem Hall of Faith certificate of commemoration during a visit to Israel in 2017.
On a personal note, Sinach married Joseph Egbu in 2014 at Christ Embassy in Lagos. In November 2019, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome announced the joyful arrival of their first child, Amyoli Mbilase, at the LIMA Awards.
A Catalog of Anthems & Awards
Released in 2015, "Way Maker" became a global worship anthem, covered by over 60 Christian artists worldwide including Michael W. Smith, Darlene Zschech, Leeland, Bethel Music, and Mandisa. The song has been translated into multiple languages and continues to shape global worship culture.
A Global Anthem of Hope
During the COVID-19 lockdown period in 2020, “Way Maker” became a worldwide source of encouragement. It was performed in hospitals, homes, and public spaces, and ranked No. 1 on the CCLI Top 100 chart for several months, making it one of the most played worship songs in churches globally.
Sinach is one of Africa’s most influential gospel artists, with over 200 songs and 12 studio albums. Her work has broken barriers and set global records across music charts, streaming platforms, and international award stages.

First singer-songwriter to top the Billboard Christian Songwriter chart for 12 consecutive weeks in May 2020.

First Nigerian artist to win Song of the Year at the 51st GMA Dove Awards for the global hit “Way Maker.”
