Men: Leadership Is Not Masculinity—Why a True Husband Doesn't Fear an Empowered Wife
The Proverbs 31 woman was accomplished, industrious, and influential. Her husband’s role was not to compete with her but to honour and support what God was doing through her. When your wife is in her season of shining, don't feel belittled by her success.
The character of a man is revealed in how he handles a force of nature like his wife without tearing her down. Sadly, too many men resort to emotional or physical abuse when they feel outshined, challenged, or threatened. But marriage was never designed to be a competition. As believers in Christ Jesus, we are called to live, grow, and fulfil purpose together.
Leadership Is the Power to Mobilise
Leadership is the ability to say, “This is where we are going. How can you help us get there faster and better?” It is about harnessing the strengths of those around you to achieve a common vision.
Look at Who Is Winning
Some of the most successful men have built strong, unshakeable partnerships with their wives. Men such as Strive Masiyiwa, Trevor Ncube, Nigel Chanakira, and the late Archbishop Ezekiel Guti have demonstrated influence across territories that many would never have been able to navigate alone.
The Strikers Get the Credit, Not the Whole Team
In football, many captains are defenders or midfielders, while the glory often goes to the flashy strikers who score the goals. “Vane skiri nezvidobhi.” Yet a great captain understands that the victory belongs to the whole team.
The Ultimate Sounding Board
Men can sometimes take longer to make important decisions because they carry the heavy weight of responsibility and don't want to make the wrong choice. That is precisely why your wife should be one of the people you trust most to help you think through major decisions.
A Man Who Is Growing
A man who can change his mind when presented with wisdom from his wife is not losing his authority. You will be questioned about your ideas. You will be challenged about your vision. You will sometimes be told, directly, that your plan needs work.
That does not make you useless. It makes you a man who is growing.
True biblical leadership is not about proving that you are always right or enforcing dominance through fear and insecurity. It is about building something together that is far greater than either of you could build alone. When a husband secures his identity in Christ rather than in his ego, he creates an environment where his wife's brilliance becomes an asset to their union, rather than a threat to his manhood.
